Servicio Para la Paz · Access to Safe Water

Safe water at home changes everything for a family.

Since 2018 we have helped families harvest rainwater and filter it at home. Next, we are taking it further.

What we do

Rainwater, filters and training

In many rural communities, families depend on rain during the dry season. We install household rainwater harvesting systems and ceramic filters from Wine to Water, so the water a family stores is safe to drink.

Community tanks serve whole neighborhoods. We test water quality with university partners, and maintenance training is our next priority.

How it works

  • HarvestGutters and a storage tank collect rain from the roof.
  • FilterA ceramic filter removes bacteria before drinking.
  • MaintainClean tanks, caps and filters keep the water safe.
  • MeasureWe test water quality with university partners.

Filters work. Maintenance makes them last.

76%of Wine to Water filters showed zero E. coli
67–93%of households use their filter, by community
52–62%of households rely mainly on rain in the dry season
22%of filters were safe for both E. coli and coliforms, so maintenance training is our next priority
